Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

PoPuP (hereinafter referred to as "the App") is a population pyramid creation tool provided by Tsuji Laboratory at Future University Hakodate (hereinafter referred to as "the Laboratory"). The App is designed for use in elementary and junior high school educational settings.

This Privacy Policy explains the information collected and used by the App.

2. Information We Collect

Specifically, the App does not collect:

• Personal information such as name, address, phone number, or email address
• Location information
• Device identifiers (IDFA, UDID, etc.)
• Browsing history or usage data
• Any other information that could identify individuals

3. Data Usage and Processing

The App processes all data locally on your device. Specifically:

• Population statistical data is bundled within the App and does not require access to external servers
• Information such as selected municipalities and display settings is stored only on your device
• No data is transmitted to external servers

4. Third-Party Disclosure

Since the App does not collect any personal information, no information is shared with third parties.

5. Saving Images

The App can save a population pyramid as a PNG image. How the image is stored depends on the platform.

• iOS: The App requests write-only permission to the Photo Library (adding photos only). It never reads or views existing photos in the library
• Android: The App writes the PNG image to the device's Documents area and passes it to an app you choose through the share menu. It does not read photos or other files on the device
• Both: Saved images are never transmitted to any external server

6. Offline Data

The population statistics bundled with the App are aggregate results of the National Census of Japan published by the Statistics Bureau of Japan and obtained through the e-Stat portal. They are public statistics and contain no personally identifiable information.

• Provider: Statistics Bureau of Japan (e-Stat)
• Census years included: Listed in "About PoPuP" within the App and in the attribution on saved images
• License: Government statistical data is used in accordance with the Government of Japan Standard Terms of Use

7. Map Functionality (iOS only)

On iOS, the App can launch the Apple Maps app to view municipality locations. This feature is not available on Android.

• Operation: Only passes municipality names to the Apple Maps app
• Location Information: The App itself does not acquire location information
• Privacy: Information handling within the Apple Maps app is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy

8. Children's Privacy

The App can be used by people of all ages, including children under 13. Since the App does not collect any personal information and shows no advertising, children's privacy is also protected.

9. Changes to Privacy Policy

The Laboratory may update this Privacy Policy as needed. Any changes to the Privacy Policy will take effect when posted on this page.
